About Our Foundation

The AIHE Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established by the Australian Institute of Health Executives (AIHE) to advance our mission and impact in developing countries. Operating as a separate entity from the Australian Institute of Health Executives (AIHE), the Foundation is dedicated to strengthening healthcare leadership, education, and system improvement, and to supporting initiatives that enable access to health care services for disadvantaged individuals and communities in need.

We have commenced the process of registering the AIHE Foundation as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), which we expect to be completed within the next six months. All donations made to the AIHE Foundation will be tax-deductible, with the administrative and management functions of the Foundation provided in a purely voluntary capacity to ensure that 100% of all contributions received are going directly to those in need.

Our Mission

The AIHE Foundation was established by the Australian Institute of Healthcare Executives (AIHE) to extend our mission of developing capable, ethical, and visionary healthcare leaders beyond Australia’s borders.

We believe that strong leadership transforms health systems. Through education, collaboration, and direct community support, the AIHE Foundation works to build leadership capability and improve access to healthcare in developing and under-resourced regions.

Our Purpose

To strengthen healthcare leadership and governance in developing countries.

To support equitable access to healthcare for underprivileged and rural communities.

To partner with organisations that share our values of compassion, accountability, and excellence for the benefit of the healthcare industry.

To create measurable, sustainable impact through leadership development and community health initiatives.

Our Approach

The work of the AIHE Foundation integrates leadership development with community health outcomes. We focus on:

  • Leadership training and mentorship for emerging and established healthcare leaders in developing regions and sectors.

  • Capacity building within under-resourced healthcare systems to improve governance and service delivery.

  • Direct funding and coordination support to bring healthcare access and equity to those who need it most.

By combining professional education with practical compassion, we hope to create health systems that are both stronger and fairer.

Working together to create lasting change

Our Partnership with the
Mutual Assistance Society Sydney (MASS)

The AIHE Foundation is proud to be partnering with the Mutual Assistance Society Sydney (MASS) to deliver tangible health benefits to communities most in need.

Collaboration is central to our approach. Together, we are combining leadership capacity-building with direct care initiatives that address immediate health inequities while laying foundations for lasting system improvement.

“Through our partnership with the AIHE Foundation, the Mutual Assistance Society Sydney Inc looks forward to building stronger networks of support, elevating opportunities for those facing barriers, and creating pathways for lasting change in providing assistance to Sri Lanka’s under-served and remote communities.”

Our First Project: Dec 2025 - Feb 2026
Restoring Sight, Restoring Hope

In Sri Lanka, cataracts are a leading cause of blindness, robbing countless individuals of their sight and, consequently, their livelihoods. For many of the poor and marginalised, access to life-changing cataract surgery remains out of reach, creating a cycle of poverty and despair.

Our inaugural initiative will see the AIHE Foundation funding 100 cataract surgeries for patients from under-privileged rural communities to gain access to the surgery in Sri Lanaka’s private health sector, over the Dec 2025 – Feb 2026 period. Through this project, we aim to:

  • Restore sight and independence for individuals who would otherwise remain vision-impaired.
  • Reduce barriers to essential surgical care in rural and disadvantaged communities.
  • Strengthen partnerships between charitable, private, and healthcare leadership organisations.

Every restored vision represents a step toward restoring opportunity and dignity.

Follow the journey as our co-founders, Dr Sidney Chandrasiri and Professor Luis Prado travel to Sri Lanka to meet with the surgical team and the patients.
